Letter Lighthouse

Getting the island ready…

How to play

Sail with Ollie through 64 activities in letter–sound matching, first sounds, word building, and blending. This text-assisted preview provides written sound cues, adult modeling, and two local sound examples for /aɪ/ and /oʊ/. Other sounds still need adult modeling.

  1. Choose any island and a support mode. Read the short introduction with a grown-up.
  2. Select a shell or picture, or place wooden letter blocks into bridge spaces. Dragging is optional.
  3. Choose Check my answer. Try again or use help whenever you like. Complete all eight adventures on an island to light it.

What you can practice

Text-assisted exploration of letters, first sounds and spellings. These activities are not listening tests or a complete reading curriculum. No ability score or reading level is produced.

Choosing a starting point

Guided supports adult co-play for ages 3–4; Growing suggests familiar short words for ages 5–6; Explorer offers less initial modeling for ages 7–8. All choices remain open.

Questions about this game

Are phoneme recordings included?

Two US-source recordings of eye and owe provide examples for /aɪ/ and /oʊ/. The full sound set is not available, and independent pronunciation review is still pending. Visible cues and adult modeling remain part of every activity; this game does not measure listening. It never reads letter names as phonemes. Five other whole words have local human audio; remaining whole words can use a standard local English voice.

Does help reduce rewards?

No. Every completed adventure earns one persistent voyage star, including supported attempts. Replays do not add duplicate stars.

Is progress saved?

Only after a grown-up enables local saving. Progress and practice notes remain in this browser. The grown-up panel exports or deletes only Letter Lighthouse data.
