Getting the game ready…

Fox Trail: Number Matching & Addition

Match quantities or make 10, 15, and 20 to clear the fox’s road home.

Starting knowledge and mode details

Fox Trail has 50 Free Match adventures: 20 Make 10, 15 Make 15 and 15 Make 20 levels, plus separate practice for every target. Earlier picture and connection-rule trails remain available.

Choose pairs that make 10, 15 or 20. For matching pictures without numerals, open Earlier trails and choose Quantity Match. Every target starts independently.

Quantity Match

Starting knowledge

  • Explore small groups of objects
  • No numeral reading required

Number range

Groups of 1 to 5 in earlier picture trails; start with four cards.

Matching rules

  • Choose one dots card and one objects card with the same amount.
  • Tap one card, then the other; tap the first again to cancel.
  • Picture trails use free matching without a timer.

Available helpers

  • Skippable, replayable demonstration and practice
  • Tap each object once to count it
  • Pause and resume

Make a Number

Starting knowledge

  • Recognize numerals within the chosen target
  • Explore combining two quantities

Number range

Make 10 uses 1–9, Make 15 uses 1–14 and Make 20 uses 1–19, with independent adventure/practice saves.

Matching rules

  • Choose two distinct number cards whose values add to the displayed target.
  • Choose a target explicitly; it stays fixed and visible for the whole puzzle.
  • Two 5 cards may make 10; one card cannot pair with itself.

Available helpers

  • Ten-frame or number-line demonstration and practice
  • Optional ten-frames or number line
  • An incorrect total with a frame and an optional hint
  • Pause and resume

Connection rules in earlier trails

  • Free Match: Matching cards can connect anywhere.
  • Straight Lines: Matching cards need a clear horizontal or vertical line. No turns.
  • Classic Connect: Matching cards need a clear path with at most two turns. The outside lane is open.

Tap or click cards. With a keyboard, Tab moves between controls, arrow keys move between cards, and Enter or Space selects. Tap a selected card again to cancel.

How to play

Match number pairs to open a real road for the fox. Fox Trail is the adventure inside Math Connect, with picture matching for a gentle start and addition challenges when those number combinations are familiar.

  1. Choose Make 10, Make 15, or Make 20. Each target has its own open starting level. Earlier trails include picture quantities and different connection rules.
  2. Select two distinct cards that make the shown total. In the 50-level campaign, Free Match lets you choose a pair anywhere on the board. Removed cards leave empty spaces.
  3. Clear the nearest roadblock so the fox can move along the open trail. An adventure finishes when the fox actually reaches home; roadside cards may remain.
  4. Use optional number helpers, lessons, undo, or hints. Separate practice offers 6, 12, or 16 cards and finishes only when every card is cleared.

What you can practice

Explore equal quantities, number pairs with the same total, and which roadblock to clear next. Different pairs can make the same number. The game offers opportunities to practice, without measuring mathematical ability or promising a learning result.

Choosing a starting point

Suggested ages are 3–10. Earlier picture trails suit children starting with quantities. Try Make 10 when those pairs are familiar; move to Make 15 or Make 20 when the addition is comfortable. Every target remains available, and an adult can join in.
